It's a little early to announce this Fall event, but we can't resist: Klinkhart Hall Arts Center is sponsoring the first Sharon Springs Poetry Festival, October 20-21, 2017.
This is no ordinary event! Pulitzer Prize winner, internationally known poet and Sharon Springs resident Paul Muldoon came to us with the idea and has been instrumental in making it happen. It's going to include:
- Student events in Sharon Springs and Cherry Valley
- Free public reading Friday, October 20 by three nationally recognized poets: Marie Howe, Major Jackson, and Robert Pinsky at the Sharon Springs School Auditorium.
- Plus, a free poetry workshop (limited to twelve participants) with Paul Muldoon at the Sharon Springs Free Library on Saturday October 21.
There are more literary prizes and honors than I can count in that list: Pulitzers, Guggenheims, Poet Laureates, and more. All right here in Sharon Springs! We'll publish more details about the poets and the events later, but go ahead and mark your calendars: October 20-21, 2017.
And don't forget about next year: October 18-20, 2018; Sharon Springs Poetry Festival already has former and current U.S. Poet Laureates Billy Collins and Tracy K. Smith on board, so stay tuned!
